When a storm hits, it can leave quite a mess. Whether that be tree branches, property damages, or garbage. That’s why it’s good to have a plan in case something happens. Cleaning up after a storm can be easy if you are well prepared. Here are some ways you can prepare for a storm clean up.

Cleaning Up After a Storm

Clearing the snow

When it comes to cleaning up after a storm, snow is the first thing you should do. When you do it, do it fast. Snow gets harder and harder to shovel and clean up the longer it sits. Hours after it stops snowing, the snow is still likely to lose and “fluffy.” This is when you’d want to clean it up because shoveling it becomes a matter of pushing it to the side.

Clean up branches

Some storms are bad enough to knock the branches right out of trees. If you have a tree in your yard, check to see if there are branches scattered about. If there aren’t any branches in your yard, check to see if the tree is damaged. If it is, you might want to get rid of it as it can pose a hazard to you in the future.

Roof

Next, when the snow has been cleaned, make sure your roof is in good condition. A snowstorm can have a great impact on your roof. Snow weighs more than you think when it stacks up. The snow that is about 1-inch deep weighs about a pound—increase that about 10 inches, and it can up in the thousands. This can, obviously, do some damage to your roof if it isn’t sturdy enough. It’s always good to make sure after the fact if it is okay.

Garbage

Lastly, when safety concerns are addressed, it’s time to pick up the trash. Storms can often tip over garbage cans or blow in trash from landfills. If you see garbage in the streets or your yard, it is your responsibility to pick it up and throw it away in a proper waste bin or dumpster.
